Join our Self-Defence and Martial Arts Fundamentals classes led by Coach Kitty, a certified Combat Coach through the World Combat Association. Trained by esteemed experts Iain Abernethy and Peter Consterdine, Coach Kitty brings top-notch self-protection instruction to our sessions.

Our classes welcome men and women of all skill levels, whether you have prior martial arts experience or are completely new to it. Everyone is encouraged to join!

Each session is 1 hour long, focusing on personal safety awareness, understanding your legal rights regarding self-defense in the UK, and mastering physical self-defense techniques. You'll engage in practical and effective self-defense methods and participate in live scenario drills in a secure and supportive environment.

Our Self-Defense and Martial Arts Fundamentals classes are designed to build a solid martial arts foundation while providing a comprehensive understanding of violent crime and strategies to avoid danger. Through our training program, you will not only boost your self-confidence but also enhance your overall fitness and strength. Our coaching approach ensures that you can learn at your own pace while steadily progressing.

I'm new to martial arts training. Can I join?

Absolutely! Our classes are perfect for beginners. You'll start with the basics, laying a solid foundation in martial arts. This includes learning essential techniques such as punches, palm strikes, elbows, kicks, and knees. We'll also cover stand-up clinch, takedowns, and basic floor fighting skills. Additionally, you'll be introduced to effective footwork and how to generate striking power, all at a pace that's comfortable for you.

I have martial arts training experience. Is this class for me?

Yes, our classes are also designed for those with prior martial arts experience. You'll refine your striking techniques, including punches, palm strikes, elbows, kicks, and knees, and work on power generation both with and without a preload. We'll delve into clinch work in a self-defense context, explore effective and low-risk throws, and cover strategies for dealing with floor situations and multiple opponents.

What will everyone learn?

In our classes, everyone will develop both the soft and physical skills necessary for self-defense. This includes pre-emptive strikes, live-scenario drills, and exercises designed to train your fight, flight, or freeze response to fear.

What will I gain from these classes?

By the end of our sessions, you'll know how to handle yourself in a self-defense situation. We teach both avoidance strategies and practical fighting techniques, helping you understand what works and what doesn't in real-life scenarios. Our classes are also a fantastic opportunity to connect with new people in your community. While self-defense can be a serious topic, we ensure our sessions are engaging and fun, providing realistic expectations of real-life non-consensual violence while maintaining a positive and supportive environment.

Wednesdays 19:30 to 20:30

All sessions are held at Ferndale Community Sports Centre, SW9 8BP.

Ferndale Community Sports Centre is a 5 minute walk from Brixton tube and Train Station and is situated right next to central Brixton, making the venue very easy to get to via public transport.
