Starting kickboxing in 2025
We all start the new year with new goals; get into better shape, lose weight, start a new sport etc. In this article I will explore how starting kickboxing can help you achieve your 2025 goals and some tips and tricks for how to stay consistent throughout the year.
Kickboxing for fitness
Kickboxing is a dynamic sport that will challenge you in various ways, pushing you to surpass your own limits. Physically, it is a tremendously demanding activity. As you start the journey of learning a new skill, you will find yourself pushing your body hard so that you can develop your fitness needed to become fight-ready. Practicing kickboxing offers numerous physical benefits, including significant improvements in your balance, coordination, overall strength, and cardiovascular fitness. All these vital elements make kickboxing the perfect choice for those individuals looking to enhance their overall health and fitness throughout the year 2025!
Kickboxing for mental health
Kickboxing can also help with those looking to improve their mental health in 2025. There is a direct link between improved mental health and physical activity. The great thing about kickboxing is that it is a sport where you have to practice with other people. So kickboxing will not only give you the mental lift of exercise but will also give you the opportunity to meet other people, form friendships and join our great community.

How to stay consistent and reach your new year goals?
We all start the new year with the best of intentions. We are determined to achieve our goals and make the year to come our best one yet. Unfortunately many of us usually struggle to maintain these goals throughout the year.
Lets look at why this might happen and how to avoid some common pitfalls so that you know what to look out for and stay consistent.
Pick achievable goals: Many people start the new year with unachievable goals, such as ‘this year I am going to train 10 hours per week’. You may be able to achieve these goals over the short term. It will be very unlikely you will be able to achieve this goal over the course of the year. Instead my recommendation is to start small and build up. Start with one hour a week and gradually build from there. Who knows with the slower more consistent route you may eventually achieve your initial goal
Go with the flow: It is important to remember that life happens. You may have x number of hours free to train kickboxing as you are reading this article, but other priorities may come up that supersede your kickboxing goals. As long as you keep the bigger picture in mind and accept that you are in this for the long haul, small hiccups here and there will not stop you from progressing. Remember staying consistent over long periods of time will make you a good kickboxer. So go with the flow and enjoy the journey.
Don’t give yourself a hard time: Remember you are human and we all fail sometimes. The most important thing to realise is that failure is an important part of the journey and will teach you many things. One of my teachers used to say ‘ The only reason I am better than you is because I have failed more than you have’. So instead of feeling crest fallen every time something goes wrong, try to take another perspective and learn from the experience. Not only will this make your goal more achievable but it will also make you feel more positive along the way.
