How to Stay Consistent During the Winter Months

Winter brings shorter days and colder temperatures, and with many of us opting to relax in front of the television with a nice warm cup of tea after a hard day’s work, it can become quite challenging to find the motivation to rise from the sofa and switch into training mode. If you are struggling with this familiar conundrum, hopefully, this article will provide you with some of the encouragement and motivation necessary to continue honing  your martial arts.

It Doesn’t Take Much to Lose Your Progress

A sad truth about training is that it truly doesn’t take much to lose all of your hard-earned progress. After just a couple of weeks of sitting on the sofa without exercising, you may begin to notice a decline in your fitness levels and overall conditioning. However, there is also some good news to consider…

It Doesn’t Take Much to Regain Your Progress!

If you trained diligently and with great intensity throughout the summer months, developed impressive levels of fitness, and achieved many of your martial arts training goals, there’s no need to panic if you take a brief break. The martial arts skills and fitness you gained will tend to return much more quickly than those who may be starting their fitness journey from scratch. That said, it is important to remember that the longer the break you take, the longer it will take to regain your previous level of skill and fitness! So, keep training regularly!

Consistency Rules All

During those cold winter months, you may find that you don’t feel as energetic or motivated as you did in the warmer summer months when you were fully engaged in kickboxing or martial arts training. But so what? Just remember that you don’t have to train at the same high intensity; instead, focus on improving your tactical and technical abilities and ensure you get enough sleep and take ample time to recover properly before each training session. By doing this, you will still see positive results in your training over the winter months.

Training is fun

Winter can be quite depressing for many, as the dark and gloom of the winter months often feels like an encroaching demon that weighs heavily on the soul. Engaging in physical training, particularly through martial arts, provides an excellent way to boost your spirits and cultivate a more positive outlook on life. Another wonderful aspect of martial arts training is the opportunity to practice and train alongside others; personally being around my training partners consistently lifts my spirits and motivates me even further.
