SANDA KICKBOXING FOR BEGINNERS

WHAT IS SANDA KICKBOXING?

Sanda, also known as Sanshou, is a Chinese combat sport that combines elements of traditional martial arts with modern kickboxing techniques. Unlike some traditional martial arts that focus solely on forms or kata, Sanda emphasizes practicality, with techniques designed for competitive fighting.

In Sanda, practitioners are trained in both striking and wrestling techniques, making it a versatile combat sport. The art incorporates punches, kicks, takedowns, and throws, allowing for a well-rounded skill set that can be applied in various combat scenarios.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST CLASS?

If you're considering joining our Sanda Kickboxing class, you might be wondering what your first session will entail. All our classes start with a warm-up to prepare your body for the physical demands of training. This will involve jogging, dynamic stretching, and muscle activation.

Once warmed up, you'll likely move on to learning fundamental techniques such as basic punches, kicks, and footwork. Don't worry if you're unfamiliar with these movements; we will guide you through each technique step-by-step, ensuring that you understand the proper form and execution.

You will then take these movements into partner exercises, these include, pad work, wrestling, basic defence and sparring drills. We will guide you through each exercise so you can gain a basic understanding on the techniques.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

For your first Sanda class, it's essential to wear comfortable workout attire that allows for a full range of motion. A typical outfit might include:

  • T-shirt or Tank Top: Choose a breathable fabric that wicks away sweat.

  • Athletic Shorts or Sweatpants: Opt for bottoms that are lightweight and flexible.

  • No Zips or Jewellery: Avoid wearing clothing that has zips or jewellery or any accessories that could pose a safety hazard during training.

WHAT EQUIPMENT SHOULD I BRING?

We will supply all your equipment for your free trial class. This will include boxing gloves and shin guards. If you have your own equipment, we recommend brining it along! We would also recommend bringing a water bottle and towel to class, so you can stay hydrated and wipe away sweat keeping yourself comfortable during breaks.
